FRIENDLY TRAILS YOUTH PROGRAMS

 

 

YOUTH LEADERSHIP PROGRAM (YLP)

 

The Youth Leadership Program utilizes the Friendly Trails Capability Curriculum and natural horsemanship to help young people ages 9-17 develop into capable, responsible, dependable, and accountable young horsemen and horsewomen. The youth in YLP all own or sponsor a horse. As the YLP youth enter high school they are invited to become an Apprentice, taking on increasing leadership responsibilities. Lessons include colt starting, horse rehabilitation, trail rides, and weekly group lessons with occasional outings to attend playdays, cattle work events, and horse camping. TRAILBLAZER

 

Trailblazer is a weekly lesson program for children ages 4-15. These are hour long private or semi-private lesson geared toward developing healthy relationships, good balance, and horse training skills. Most of these lessons take place on the trail, weather permitting, and are weekday afternoons from 1:30-6:30pm. $305/month, prorated discounts for vacation 4 weeks/year. $3380 annual tuition for 13 months, paid in advance.

 

ITANCAN HORSE BROTHERHOOD

 

IHB serves boys ages 7-12, with mentors 12-adult. IHB is both Waldorf-inspired and nature based. The boys participate in Native American-influenced horse training, bareback riding, trail rides, barn chores, and Equine Assisted Learning activities including team building and leadership games. They meet Tuesdays from 3:45-5:15pm and a new group is forming for homeschoolers on a weekday morning. Fee is $305/month, first trial class for free, please RSVP.

 

KINDERHORSE

 

Kinderhorse is an introductory horse class for children ages 4-6. Four youngsters and their parents work with two horses in small curriculum segments including circle time with yoga, grooming, groundwork, and leadline riding. Kinderhorse meets in the morning or early afternoon. Fee: $145 for four weeks.

 

HOLISTIC TRAINING FOR HORSES AND HOMESCHOOLERS

 

Friendly Trails is now offering 75 minute homeschooling classes during weekdays (H&H). Six-week H&H sessions include horse care, barn chores, holistic horse training, yoga and meditation for riders, bareback riding, time in the woods and on the trail, and teambuilding and leadership exercises. Classes are organized around curriculum for elementary grades children (1st-5th) and middle school children (5th-8th). Classes will have 4-6 students. Fee: $290/six weeks.

 

PRIVATE SESSIONS

 

Private Equine Assisted Leadership sessions for youth are 60-75 minutes long and include all aspects of holistic training for horses and humans as well as leadership and personal growth skills. Fee: $125. New student trial session discount: $85/hour.
