The Friendly Trails Dress Code is designed for the safety and progress of all students.  Please adhere closely to these guidelines (and requirements); if you have any questions, direct them to Alane. Scroll down to find your own category of student to understand the dress code that applies to you.

Kinderhorse (Riders 7 and under or on leadline):

  •  Close-toe shoes
  •  Long pants
  •  Safety helmet that is for one of these sports: horse-riding, snow sports or biking.  The helmet must fit snugly or it will not be acceptable.

Trailblazers:

  •  Sturdy boots with small heel. Boots for riding, hiking and rainboots are okay. However, riding boots are best and suggested for riders who are progressing to saddle use.  Riding boots are required for riding in a saddle.
  •  Long pants
  •  An approved horse-back riding helmet. New Trailblazers may use their bike helmets for the first month trial period. Extreme spots helmets are also accepted.
  •  Rain pants and rain jacket are required during the wet season.
  •  Warm layers that fit: too large sweaters and jackets actually impair safety.

Sponsors and owners under 18:

  •  Riding boots, hiking boots or muckboots are always required for groundwork. Riding boots are required for lessons.
  •  Long pants. Riding tights or chaps are required for lessons. Full or half chaps are recommended with short boots.
  •  Approved horseback riding helmet that fits. Please note that any time a helmet is subject to a strong impact it must be replaced. Also look for expiration date on helmet.
  •  A working watch
  •  A lantern during daylight standard hours
  •  A rain suit - pants and jacket
  •  Water bottle and holder
  •  Warm layers. During lessons clothes should be snug and close-fit so the instructor can correct position. A snug vest over other layers works well.

Adults:

  •  Adults should minimally follow the guidelines for Trailblazers. As an adult student progresses, she or he may wish to apply a more stringent set of guidelines when there is agreement between student and instructor.
